Ecology and Energy

In today’s world people, to achieve the required level of comfort, spending more and more energy. We can not imagine life without refrigerators, electrical heating appliances (kettle, microwave oven), washing machines, dishwashers, computers, and in the summer – without air conditioning. We now have power already, instead of one seasonal peak energy consumption, as it was 20 years ago – two: winter and summer. And, in conversations at the state level on the adoption of energy technologies, in the home makes little difference. None of us are ready to give up the now familiar things, which make our lives easier, safer and more comfortable.

However, due to the fact that technology is constantly evolving, manufacturers of energy-using products offer new and improved devices, the number of people enjoying the benefits of civilization, has been steadily growing. How to increase and consumption of energy, especially electricity.

Recent events in Japan on the nuclear power plant in the world once again forced to think about safe power generation. For example, in Bavaria, where about 60% of electricity is produced by nuclear power plants, it was decided to gradually phase out the electricity produced in nuclear power plants, so that by 2020 completely switch to alternative sources.

Therefore engineers and designers say something like this: we do everything to make our power plants were the most environmentally friendly. We do this in accordance with the current development of science and technology in this field. But mankind’s energy needs are growing faster than the development of clean technologies for electricity.

It is clear that the production of energy by means of wind, sun and geothermal energy, more environmentally friendly than the energy produced in thermal and nuclear power plants. However, it is more expensive, but at the same time, less stable. If we consider the same Bavaria, there is hard to find a place with a strong steady wind, as, for example, in the Netherlands, sunny days in a year is much less than in Cyprus, and the surface leaves no geothermal sources. Thus, in parallel with the transition to alternative energy, humanity must find ways to meet their needs through energy efficiency. Thus, a simple replacement of fluorescent lighting to LED can save 50 to 90% of the electricity consumed for lighting.

Of course, replacing the light bulb, ordinary citizens do not save much. But competent government policy, including, in the formation of economic incentive mechanism introduction of energy-saving technologies at home and at work to reduce needs of our society and electricity, respectively, to move at least one step towards a cleaner environment.
